About Us

Who We Are

Transforming schools into dynamic learning centers for sustainable land use and holistic community development

Since 2014

Our Story

In 2014, a group of fourteen pioneering organizations came together in Kenya, united by a shared dream — to transform how schools relate to the land, to food, and to their communities. From that collective vision, Schools and Colleges Permaculture Programme (SCOPE) Kenya was born.

SCOPE Kenya began as a network of civil society groups and non-governmental organizations with one purpose: to strengthen and connect ongoing efforts that help schools practice sustainable land use while producing nutritious food. What started as a collaboration has grown into a movement that continues to reshape education and agriculture across the country.

What We Do

At the heart of SCOPE's mission is a bold idea that schools can become dynamic learning centers for sustainable land use, nurturing not just young minds but also the environment and communities around them. In SCOPE's world, every garden is a classroom, every compost heap a science experiment, and every meal a lesson in food security and sustainability.

Across Kenya, SCOPE's member organizations share a common vision: to make schools living examples of collaboration between teachers, parents, and students. Together, they demonstrate that sustainable land use isn't just possible — it's powerful. The ripple effects are visible in greener schoolyards, improved nutrition, stronger community bonds, and a healthier environment.

SCOPE Kenya builds the capacity of field staff, teachers, learners, and parents, developing learner-friendly agroecology and permaculture materials that make sustainability an engaging part of education. Through hands-on initiatives like permaculture gardens, compost making, integrated pest management, and agroforestry, SCOPE helps students experience the beauty and balance of nature firsthand.
